East Fraser Fiber and Parallel Wood Products announces shutdowns

East Fraser Fiber Co. Ltd. and Parallel Wood Products Ltd. (Parallel55) will close their fingerjoint stud plants in Mackenzie and Williams Lake, BC, for an indefinite period, effective Friday October 17th 2008. The shutdowns are the result of falling stud prices.

The companies regret that they are forced to take this further step after announcing curtailed operations at both facilities in 2007. New scan lines installed during the past two years at both plants are currently functioning well and, therefore, this further decision is a disappointment. Our employees and customers are essential to the ongoing success of these operations, but cash losses resulting from current prices make continuing to operate too difficult.
